Resume Writing and Interviewing Skills Bowie High School 2017

What is a Resume? The term resume comes from the French and means a "summary." A resume is a written summary of your education, qualifications, skills and achievements. It shows a future employer what you have done in the past and is used to apply for jobs. It is one of the most important pieces of any job application.

Why Do I Need a Resume? In today’s job market, the resume has become the number one requirement potential employers request. Before an employer will take valuable time to interview you, he or she wants to meet you – on paper. How you impress that employer with your resume can, and will, make all the difference. Without a resume, you can’t even begin to compete. That is why it is imperative to have a great resume, one that effectively lets employers know what you can do for them.

Interviewing Preparation: Resume Application Review Job Description Visit location of where the interview will occur What to wear Practice interviewing

What to Wear Professional / Business Interview Attire. The first impression you make on a potential employer is the most important one. The first judgement an interviewer makes is going to be based on how you look and what you are wearing. That's why it's always important to dress appropriately for a job interview.

Wardrobe Https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6xufGeyaMU Clothing should be neat and tidy Shoes should be polished and clean (closed toe) Avoid extreme hairstyles and colors Keep make-up and perfume to a minimum No jeans, sneakers, sandals, tank tops, crop tops, or anything low cut (shirt or pants), or too short (skirt or blouse)

Practice Interviewing Review examples of interview questions and answers that you can find on the web. Practice your responses before you go to the interview. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2IDGXX5-YY You need to have questions to ask the employer Send a Thank You email after the interview

Social Media Profile What is your digital footprint? What is your image or brand on social media? Many recruiters do check your social media accounts Ask yourself, how am I representing myself to the world? Would I be embarrassed if my mom, dad or grandparents viewed the things I’m posting online? REMEMBER nothing is deleted on the internet after it’s been posted. Images and text are SAVED FOREVER
