And the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning built the site by bringing together industry partners and educators to help people link learning and education with meaningful, secure work. Over the next couple of hours our Ground Rules are simple: no formal break - do what you need to ask that you stay off your devices as much as possible and silence them active session, the team will walk you through a little project history about the project, demo the site, and then we will role play in teams This isn’t about us – about you. We encourage questions and participation. Please pipe up. 7 second rule – we are ok with silence Let’s have some fun! 5-10 mins
What it is: What it does: A pipeline catalyst We know that people are much more likely to reach their career goals when they have a clear line-of-sight to their path forward. We also know that currently there is a mismatch, or skills gap, between employer needs and the skills of current job seekers. JPMorgan Chase saw an opportunity to positively impact that gap and invested $250M to help markets, like Houston, build a demand-driven workforce system and prepare youth and adults for careers in high demand, high salary, middle-skill occupations. Over 150 petrochemical subject-matter-experts and dedicated project stakeholders from companies such as CP Chemical, Shell, LyondellBasell, ExxonMobil, Dow, TCP Group, and Noltex contributed to the focus, content, and outreach for the site. All coming together with a unified industry voice. EHCMA will maintain the website ongoing providing resources and expertise for content curation, hosting, promotion, and training activities. What it does: PetrochemWorks.com is an interactive, visually-engaging, and information-packed career exploration resource for the petrochemical industry. An industry which will require an additional 19,000 skilled workers annually for the next 3-5 years. PetrochemWorks.com serves as a catalyst to feed attraction, illuminate industry opportunities, and ultimately increase applications to training and education programs to raise the number of work-ready job seekers. PetrochemWorks.com Aims to Do 3 Things - Generate excitement about the industry and empower future workers to take the long view when considering careers - Connect students to programs and training that prepares them for petrochemical jobs - AND ultimately assist with building an educated and available workforce in our growing region 5 mins What it is: A pipeline catalyst A window into the industry An industry cornerstone What it does: Makes advising easier Creates industry know it all’s Lights the career fire

Using PetrochemWorks.com in your advising sessions Learning Objective 3 - Activity: Student scenarios are provided for groups of 3 to play the student/advisor role while talking about the site or industry Now that we’ve had a chance to really explore the site, we want to give you a chance to utilize your skills in conjunction with the site. We’ve heard from previous trainings on these sites that having a chance to use the site to counsel a student was very helpful. With the people nearest you, let’s break into groups of three. Pause In this next activity, each of your three will have a role- that of an advisor, a student or job seeker seeking advice, and an observer. We’ll give you each a chance to play all three roles. 3 min. Put it to practice
Advising Session Groups of three: Once you have decided who will play each role in your first round, you’ll choose one of these cards hold up LIFE cards. We have created practice scenarios with the questions of a student or job seeker. Who ever is playing the Advisor will pick the card most applicable to their role and, without reading it, give it to the student/job seeker in your three-person group. After that person has had a chance to read the card, he or she will pose their questions to the Advisor. As the Advisor, your role is to use the website to guide your student or job seeker to consider a career in Petrochem. It may be helpful to guide them to the Match Me tool, Education Programs, About Petrochem, or all of the above. If you are an Observer, take note of at least one thing the Advisor does well. It may also be helpful to take note of other pages one might visit during a session like this- remember, there is no one right way to navigate the site. Ask co-presenters to model a session or ask participants for a volunteer student (who asks the question) and you the presenter will play the advisor and give guidance. Then ask your audience to play the role of the Observer and give (gentle) feedback. We’ll give you about 5 minutes for each round, letting you know when it’s time to switch roles. After you’ve had a chance to complete 3 rounds, we’ll discuss the activity as a group. Questions for debrief with all participants after activity is complete: How did the site help you talk about the industry with your student? How? How did the site empower you as the counselor? How did the site empower you as the student or JS? 25 min. Advising Session Groups of three: 1 Advisor/Counselor - advises seeker using the site 1 Student/Job Seeker - presents chosen scenario 1 Observer - provides feedback on use of the site Switch roles Time limit: 15 minutes
