CJK NACO Best Practices Updates provided by Shi Deng, CJK NACO Project Coordinator In collaboration with members of the CJK NACO Reviewer Group CEAL 2018 Cataloging Workshop March 20, 2018

CJK NACO Best Practices: Outline Currently on the CJK NACO Project Website Reminder on some established practices Remove unrelated non-Latin references Record non-Latin data in 670 Record URL in 670 日欧in Japanese Romanization: Nichiō vs. Nichi-Ō How to record Chinese or Korean name in Japanese publication Place name used as qualifier for corp name: PPL vs. ADM 2017 CJK NACO Project Update

On CJK NACO Project Website https://www.loc.gov/aba/pcc/naco/CJKNACOBestPractices.html Changed the format from MS Word to HTML Expanded the treatment of 字 and 號/号 for all CJK languages Added new items that were discussed at 2017 CEAL Cataloging Workshop

Reminder: Remove unrelated Non-Latin References in NAR when doing NACO work https://www.loc.gov/catdir/cpso/nonlatinfaq.html Q9 Yes, you can edit or delete non-Latin references that were added via pre- population Please use judgment and err on the side of caution, if they are obvious typos apparent to someone knowledgeable in the language obviously added to the wrong heading can be removed. Review 670 note(s) before making changes Addition notes: do not change 008/29 coding, and do not delete 667 notes on “Non-Latin reference(s) not evaluated” and “Machine- derived non-Latin script reference project.”

Reminder: Non-Latin data in 670 Please follow LC instruction on 670 citation with non-Latin data Https://www.loc.gov/catdir/cpso/non-Latin670.pdf The formula for citations is as follows: 670 $a citation to the work title in romanized form, pub. date: 670 $b page citation (found nonroman form of name or title = systematically romanized form of name and terms) additional page citation (found romanization [in rom.]) 670 $a Han’gukhwa non, 1989: $b t.p. (金 鍾太 = 김 종태 = Kim Chong-t’ae) (Korean entity that appears only in Chinese characters; additional Hangul reading and systematically romanized forms supplied following equals signs)

Reminder: Non-Latin data in 670: What’s wrong with this record?

Reminder: Non-Latin data in 670: What’s wrong with this record?

Reminder: Record URL in 670 DCM Z1 on citing URL in 670 Catalogers may optionally provide a uniform resource identifier (URI) in subfield $u of the 670 citation to link to the cited resource if it contains significant information related to the established entity that cannot be cited succinctly in the authority record.  Note that use of a URI in the 670 $u does not take the place of the requirement to cite relevant data in subfields $a and $b of the 670 field needed to support the authorized access point (including additions) or variants (this information will continue to be available if the site changes or disappears).   Example: 670 Baidu website, May 28, 2016 $b (胡汉民(1879/12/9-1936/5/12) = Hu Hanmin (1879/12/9-1936/5/12); wan hao 不匮室主 = Bukuishizhu) $u … Not: 670 Baike.baidu.com, May 28, 2016 $b (胡汉民(1879/12/9-1936/5/12) = Hu Hanmin (1879/12/9- 1936/5/12); wan hao 不匮室主 = Bukuishizhu)
