The customary units of weight are: Ounce (oz) Pound (lb) Ton (T) 1 pound (lb) = 16 ounces (oz) 1 ton (T)= 2,000 lb.

OUnces Ounces (oz) are used to measure the weight of very light things, like a feather or an ant. What other things can you think of that you might measure using ounces? If there are 16 oz. in one pound, how many ounces are there in 5 pounds?

Pounds Pounds are used to measure the weight of many things, such as people, animals, and many objects. What objects can you think of that we would measure in pounds?

How many pounds are in 8 tons? 1 ton = 2,000 pounds. Tons are used to measure very heavy objects like 18 wheeler trucks or trailers. How many pounds are in 8 tons?

Which unit? Tell which customary unit you would use to measure the weight of the following items.

Which unit of measurement is most likely? 4 oz. or 4 lb.? 350 lb. or 350 T? 10 oz. or 10 lb.?
