INTRODUCTION Approximately 50% of the United States population lives along the coast while 90% of all hurricane related deaths occur along the coast from storm surge. There is also a growing number of people who are fascinated with hurricanes, and want to find out more about them. More and more of these people are going to the Internet for their information. With more and more people living along the coastline, or interested in learning more about hurricanes, it is important to have reliable information to keep them aware and prepared for an approaching hurricane. Open your presentation with an attention-getting incident. Choose an incident your audience relates to. The incidence is the evidence that supports the action and proves the benefit. Some of the leading coastal populations are in Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas, which are all vulnerable to hurricanes. INTRODUCTION Many of these coastal populations are anticipated to grow over the next 25 to 30 years according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Many of these growing coastal populations are in states that are vulnerable to hurricanes such as Florida, Georgia, North Carolina,Texas, and Virginia . Hurricane Forecasters have indicated a long range forecast for increased hurricane activity over this same 25 to 30 year period with many of them being major hurricanes making landfall in the United States. The latest information on current hurricanes such as the latest data, satellite and radar imagery. Tips on how to prepare and stay out of harm’s way when a hurricane approaches your area. Stories on how past hurricanes have impacted on towns, and how they are coping today. Next, state the action step. Make your action step specific, clear and brief. Be sure you can visualize your audience taking the action. If you can’t, they can’t either. Benefits A visitor to the Hurricaneville website will be better informed about hurricanes. Trackers will have the exact location and forecast on a current hurricane or tropical storm. Residents of areas about to be affected by a hurricane will be better prepared to weather the storm. People will not just see advisories from the National Hurricane Center, but actually see the depth of the devastation to a town, and the effects it has on the residents. Give hurricane trackers and coastal residents updated advisories, data, satellite and radar imagery on a current hurricane or tropical storm so that they can be able to use the information effectively. Provide tips and important information to help residents evacuate or prepare themselves for a landfalling hurricane. Give people more of a human side of the story of a landfalling hurricane by showing the economic and daily life toll. To close, restate the action step followed by the benefits.
