Lifestyle diseases Diseases caused partly by unhealthy behaviors and partly by other factors. Ex. Diabetes, some types of heart disease and some types of cancer

RISK FACTORS Anything that increases the likelihood of injury, disease or other health problems Controllable Uncontrollable (age, race, gender, heredity)

Leading causes of death among teens Motor vehicle accidents Homicide Suicide Other accidents

Six Health risk behaviors Sedentary Lifestyle – inactive lifestyle Alcohol and other drug abuse Sexual Activity – STD’s, HIV AIDS, unplanned pregnancy Behaviors that cause injuries – not wearing seatbelt, taking risks Tobacco use – choice often takes place in high school (#1 preventable cause of death in all age groups) Poor diet

Six components of health Physical Health – a balance of diet and exercise Emotional Health – expressing your emotions in a positive way. (learn to forgive and forget) Social Health – quality of your relationships Mental Health – ability to recognize reality and cope with the demands of daily life.
