Who will/should educate? Local employee – national of country where sanctuary located Person familiar with local culture, needs & priorities Staff member who is trained or has experience in education and communication programs In smaller sanctuaries, this role might be combined with other functions and be carried out by personnel such as the director or a senior animal caregiver

What materials will be used? Based on resources available at individual sanctuaries Structured programs - visiting public & classrooms Static displays Graphics Media – videos, primate sounds & more Curriculum for Students Community Outreach Programs .

Developing An Education Program Consult & Collaborate with the local community Consider audiences & potential diverse age groups and learning styles

Written Education Policy Should identify specific components of the program Set out the overall methods by which these components are accomplished

PASA Sanctuaries conduct education and communication programs which: Promote primate conservation Influence people’s long-term attitudes and behaviors thereby encouraging the protection of species and their habitats Are designed to create ongoing public support, influence policy makers, and foster commitment to protecting primates and their habitats Describe specific ways that the audience can contribute to the conservation of species

Education Program Evaluation Keep records of: Specific projects, numbers of participants, and evaluation procedures Evaluate effectiveness & content – update as needed based on feedback

Target Audiences   Sanctuaries should have a thorough understanding of the needs of their various target audiences. A sanctuary may not be able to reach all audiences equally, but should use a thoughtful approach to audience selection as well as strategic program development.
