Haz Mat Incident Considerations Chapter 11 Site Control Concepts

Site Control Concepts Session Objectives Understand the importance of site control Understand the purpose of the various zones

Site Control Concepts Properly protect personnel against the hazard(s) of the material involved Confine and minimize the spread of contamination Control access to the hazard location

Establishing the Control Lines and Zones Reference books Computer data bases MSDS Information available from the manufacturer or personnel on scene If the material is an unknown use their best judgment based on the existing conditions

Establishing the Control Lines and Zones Control lines should be established based on a specific value Confirm with air monitoring Use physical barriers Establish control lines that are visible and easy to control

Control Zones Exclusion (hot) zone Contamination reduction (warm) zone Support zone
