Read Model Essay (20 min) Read as a whole group to begin essay. Read quietly to complete essay. Annotate essay as we read (5 pts., due in tray at end of class today) (STAR) Narrative sections (***) Analysis sections

Write Narrative Paragraph (15 min) Tell about a time when you were misjudged by someone in a position of power. 2 people tell “seed stories” Everyone write their own story in one strong paragraph (worth 5 pts., due in the tray at the end of class today) Volunteers share out a few.

Narrative Analysis (10 min) As a class, read the paragraph at the bottom of pg 4 that begins with “To many, what was done to my brother…” Skim the templates handout. What moves is Cooper making as a writer in this paragraph to analyze what happened?

Write a Narrative Analysis (15 min) Use one (or more) of the templates to write an analytic paragraph that goes with your narrative. (Worth 5 pts., due in the tray at the end of class) Volunteers share out.

Choice Activity Continue to develop this essay or begin a new one (working towards your first major assignment) Read and work on book club contribution sheets, due Wednesday at the door
