Presentation transcript:

South Lanarkshire Council “Inspiring Enterprise Challenge” – previously known as SLC’s Young Apprentice. This will take place during 2 weeks of the summer holidays 2017 for up to 16 senior pupils, selected from our schools.

What Is It? Organised and run by Helen Salt, Employability and Enterprise Coach for SLC, the programme will be similar to the ‘BBC Apprentice’ programme. Pupils will take part in a number of business led challenges over two weeks, which will provide them with experiences which can then be included in CVs and interviews in the future.

The Benefits This programme means you can ‘stand out from the crowd’ and we hope to give successful candidate examples of working with employers and opportunities to develop skills for learning, life & work during the programme. The focus of the two weeks will be entrepreneurial, demonstrating to pupils that they have the skills to consider self- employment as an option in the future.

What’s Involved? The programme will run every week day from Monday 24th July – Thursday 3rd August 2017. Council HQ will be the meeting place for pupils, and they will be required to make their own way there and back each day. Transport to and from the business locations, and lunch every day will be provided. Helen Salt, Business Engagement Co- ordinator will be leading the programme each day.

Who Can Apply? We can accommodate 16 x S4 - S6 students (but we are allowing S3 pupils to apply)and we expect competition for places to be high. We aim to attract young people of all abilities with an interest in self-employment at some point in their future. You do not need to be planning to go to university to take advantage of this opportunity-it is open to everyone. All you need is an interest in looking towards developing really useful skills for your future. In short-anyone can apply!

What is Essential? Nevertheless, pupils must be committed to the programme and to getting the most they can from it, and of course attending every day. Parental consent is required. Last year’s pupils had a great time and found it both fun and educational.

The Incentive?.. The successful candidates will be asked to attend an interview in June 2017 to secure their place. Pupils will receive written feedback from judges and participating businesses at the end of the programme and one candidate will win overall best individual prize – to be revealed in June!

What Next? Ask Mrs McLean / Mr Nelson / Mrs Agnew for an application form Complete it and have your parent / carer sign it and return it by Monday 15 May to the teacher who gave it to you.

The Legal Bit! Information for parents will be given to successful candidates and all Risk Assessments etc are currently being arranged. Parents will be required to complete a consent form in June prior to the programme commencing.
