Primary Criteria for Establishing or Modifying Attendance Boundaries Primary Criteria – based on logistics Geographic proximity Building capacity Projected enrollment (students are not always assigned to their closest school – all three criteria must be considered and all students must be assigned.)

Secondary Criteria for Establishing or Modifying Attendance Boundaries Secondary criteria – used when primary criteria offer more than one option for assignment Neighborhood grouping Traffic patterns Frequency of neighborhood redistricting School feeder alignment Balancing of special programs (i.e., Gates, ELL, Special Needs)

Criteria for Establishing or Modifying Attendance Boundaries Neighborhoods are the building blocks of the attendance boundaries Future school changes (openings/additions/closings) will be considerd Attempt to be forward-looking Minimize the continuous shifting of neighborhoods

The Process for Modifying Attendance Boundaries This will be a four part process Session 1: General overview Session 2: Review of First Draft (Week of June 11th) Session 3: Review of Second Draft (Week of August 20th) Session 4: Review of Final Proposal (Week of October 8th) Board Review: October 2018 Board Approval: November 2018 Family Notification will begin December 2018

The Process for Modifying Attendance Boundaries (continued) Community Engagement All forums will begin with a presentation Ensures continuity in the process Divided into smaller work groups (sessions 2, 3 and 4) Groups facilitated by trained staff Equity in the process Focused on discussion criteria

Frequently asked questions Why are you rebalancing elementary schools when high schools are over capacity? Why do you currently allow inter-district transfers if certain schools are above capacity? Will rising fifth graders and other students be grandfathered? Will there still be inter-district transfers during and after 2019/20? How will the elementary schools align with the middle schools?
