Career Ready 101 Jefferson College ATS
What is Career Ready 101? ACT Career Ready 101 is a comprehensive program that brings together courses from both ACT KeyTrain and the ACT Soft Skills Suite. The program offers an integrated approach to exploring careers and their skill requirements and builds life-literacy through lessons about financial awareness, job searching, and more. ACT Career Ready 101 is a powerful way to work toward obtaining ACT NCRC credentials and helps set users up for success.
What is it used for? Career Ready 101 was developed to help students prepare to take the WorkKeys Assessment. ACT WorkKeys is a job skills assessment system that helps employers select, hire, train, develop, and retain a high-performance workforce. This series of tests measures foundational and soft skills and offers specialized assessments to target institutional needs. Successful completion of ACT WorkKeys assessments in Applied Mathematics, Locating Information, and Reading for Information can lead to earning ACT's National Career Readiness Certificate (ACT NCRC), a portable credential earned by more than 2.3 million people across the United States.
How is the ATS using it? Currently, Applied Mathematics and Applied Communication Arts students are given a login to use for CareerReady101. They are given class time to complete the pre-test. When they are finished with other assignments, they are to work on their lessons. Students are encouraged to use this software in their free time—they can access it from anywhere that has internet. They will post-test at the end of the year to check for progress.
How it applies to the Reading Initiative-- We are piloting this program with students who are receiving college credit that currently DO NOT meet the reading standard. These students were all given a login and given class time to take the pre-test. They are being given some class time and being encouraged to use their own time, to increase their score. Once they have scored a 6 on the Reading for Information section, they are being referred to Karen so that they can re-take the Compass test.
What is our goal? We are trying to convey to the students the importance of improving their reading scores. We are hoping that this method will help improve the students’ scores so that they do not have to take remedial classes once they have completed their ATS classes, and before they are admitted as full time college students.
