Victorian Yacht Clubs Summary Snapshot Strategic Planning Session January 2016 Victorian Yacht Clubs Summary Snapshot Richard Hewett, CEO There are approx. 90 yacht clubs in Victoria with approx. 24000 members This is a summary glance at 5 of these Clubs We work together with a number of these Clubs (racing / hosting events) and we also share Members with a couple of them We also compete with these Clubs in many areas some of which include; Membership / racing / marina berthing / boat yard / attracting youth / sailing schools

Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club Very progressive club with strong leadership Membership is strong (3400+) with significant growth Signature event with high profile - KPMG day / Strongly pursuing World Championship events No marina facilities but looking at putting down about 10 suitable moorings for visiting yachts Recently secured (apparently) favourable 50 year lease (pepper corn) Cash reserves - $ 2.5m in the bank Seasonal in nature Approx. 50 joint members with SYC Current Vic & Australian Yacht Club of the Year

Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron An ambitious club on the move Current multi m $ clubhouse redevelopment just complete Current marina 170 berths 100% occupancy Additional 200 berth marina – taking their overall berthing to 370 Membership 1700 (about to be capped if not already) – 25% live locally, 75% melb metro Hardstand / Travel Lift just reopened Current Management transition in no. of key roles inc. GM / F&B / Marina Seasonal in nature Approx 50 joint members with SYC

Royal Brighton Yacht Club Well situated club with a proud history 250 berth marina @ approx. 80% occupancy – evidently discounting on short term basis to improve occupancy Development - $3m clubhouse works / minor marina tweaks / exploring hardstand options Boat yard now permanently closed / will use boat yard space to focus on youth 90% sail / 10% motor boats 1550 members Limited onsite parking Lengthy walk to marina

Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron Located in St Kilda, highly visible location New $15.5m 250 berth marina @ 70% occupancy (struggling to increase occupancy) Boat yard (dilapidated) – will be reviewing its future 970 members Very limited parking Lengthy walk to marina Considering onsite boat broker (Sundance) to assist with filling marina Contract out catering and sailing school New GM

Royal Yacht Club of Victoria Highly successful racing club 170 berth marina (in need of replacement) @ 100% occupancy Development – new clubhouse, travel lift, 65 year lease & 240 berth marina redevelopment plans 870 members Racing club Recently gifted $5m towards development plans Issues – dredging, aging membership

Sandringham Yacht Club Membership of 2700 & surveys suggest high levels of member satisfaction Welcoming culture with successful introductory day pass scheme & discover sailing programs Sizeable racing fleets, generally active 356 berth marina @ 100% occupancy (short boat ready waitlist predominantly 10-12m pens) Marina has a lot of inactive ‘licence tenants’ Boat yard well placed to cater for SYC and nearby clubs 500 boats onsite – all areas at 100% occupancy – 70% yachts – 30% power Keen to improve participation, regenerate membership, service debt, focus on risk & asset replacement….
