Administration of SAPSI-S I-RtI Network Administration of SAPSI-S

Self Assessment of Problem Solving Implementation-School Level (SAPSI-S) Explore What questions do you have regarding the vocabulary? What questions do you have regarding the items? What questions do you have regarding the response categories? How did the assignment go? What questions do you have? Concerns? Comments? Discussion/networking ideas Have any of you completed any other RTI self-assessment instruments? What were they? How did you use them? How did it go? How do you think the SAPSI-S might be used to assist you with some of the issues going on in your districts that you said you would like to discuss today? 11/13/2018 Illinois RTI Network

SAPSI-S Timelines Who’s Involved Administration Connection to Consensus Connection to Current Issues What other administration concerns do you have? Other reminders to all: Timeline = January-February 28, 2013 (must submit before March 1, 2013) Administer with a school leadership team. To mark a “yes” the item must be in place for 6 or more months. Sources of documentation need to be identified for each “yes” response. Administration length varies depending upon the level of discussion associated with each item. Expect at least 1 hour for administration. Coaching tips: Setting the Stage for first administration - Prior to the first administration, explain that this is baseline data, and we expect very few items to be marked “yes.” The purpose of this assessment is to define current status and develop an action plan for next steps. Time Saving Tips: - If this is your second administration, print out or open up your responses from last year. Use these responses as your starting point to save time. Quickly ascertain whether those items that were marked are still in place, and then concentrate on what additional items can be checked. Provide the SAPSI-S to the team ahead of time and ask that they preview the items and think about the school’s status and mark their school’s status. (can jigsaw this and assign each team member to review a portion of the SAPSI-S prior to the meeting) During administration: Use a projector to project the SAPSI-S as you complete it as a team. Or, at least make sure everyone has a copy. As the facilitator, make sure you ask follow up and clarifying questions for items as you go to ensure that their ratings are as accurate as possible. Use the SAPSI-S Glossary of Terms, Crosswalk, & Language Differences documents to help with this. At the end of the administration, consider asking the team if there were major items that they believe ought to be addressed this year. Explain that at your next meeting, you will be presenting graphs of their data and developing an action plan. However, it is nice to get a list of key items now when the items have been recently discussed. This will may action planning more efficient next time. Questions that might come up in discussion: How will the I-RTI Network support me the first time I do this? How often would you recommend we administer the SAPSI-S to monitor our progress? What if I can’t get the team to do the SAPSI-S when I’m on my own? My team won’t spend over an hour on this, how can I speed up the process? Everyone can participate in responding to questions like these, doesn’t have to just be the AWIL/Lead Coach answering. 11/13/2018 Illinois RTI Network

How are you feeling about administering the SAPSI-S? I am more confused now about administering the SAPSI-S than when I got here. I have about the same understanding of administering the SAPSI-S as when I got here. I have a better understanding of administering the SAPSI-S than when I got here. Questions/Comments
