Homework: Homework Packet 3 Due Thursday! What does it mean for an organism to be unicellular? Give an example of a unicellular organism Homework: Homework Packet 3 Due Thursday!

You are your microbes video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1X8p0vhsWRE

What are the differences between humans and bacteria? Write as many differences as you can think of in your notes. Try to come up with at least 3 ideas

Differences between bacteria and humans Multicellular More complex Sexual reproduction Slower reproduction Larger in size Bacteria: Unicellular Less complex Asexual reproduction Faster reproduction Smaller in size

Types of cells Bacteria cells are called prokaryotic cells Human cells (and animals and plants) are called eukaryotic cells Complete the prokaryotic and eukaryotic activity. Work as a group This means, you entire group should be on the same problem and every group member should be actively participating in discussions as well as writing down answers

Prokaryotes vs. Eukaryotes (the differences) Prokaryotes (BACTERIA) Circular DNA Cell Wall Free floating ribosomes NO nucleus Eukaryotes (PLANTS/ANIMALS) DNA organized into chromosomes Not ALL have a cell wall Free and attached ribosomes NUCLEUS

Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes BOTH HAVE: Cell membrane Ribosomes DNA

Exit Ticket Create a Venn diagram for prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell structures (make it big enough to clearly write all the structures)

Challenge Question Antibiotics are taken when you are sick and need to kill pathogenic bacteria. We obviously don’t want antibiotics to kill our own cells. Since that is the case, what part of the bacteria cell would scientists want to target with antibiotics?
