NUTV – Basic and Expanded Service UNITS – April 29, 2004 NUTV – Basic and Expanded Service Mark Reynolds Manager, Support Services/TSS

What Is NUTV? NUTV is the name Northwestern University Information Technology (NUIT) has given to its innovative system of delivering expanded television options to the University. NUIT implemented NUTV in partnership with the Division of Student Affairs in response to student requests for access to expanded television options in individual rooms. Currently, NUTV includes two "tiers" of service - Basic and Expanded. Basic – 4 channels Expanded – Additional 20 channels available in residence halls only

How Does NUTV Work? NUTV requires: Technology from Video Furnace to encode video data and store it on a server A multicast enabled network to transport the video signal from the server to the users computer Video Furnace client software (downloaded to the user’s computer when NUTV access is requested)

What Are the Requirements for NUTV? Network A multicast-enabled switched Ethernet connection on the University network Computer (to watch either "Basic NUTV" or "Expanded NUTV“) working network adapter card (NIC) http://www.tss.northwestern.edu/nutv/helpguide/requirements.html “Expanded Service” available only on residence hall network Partnership with Student Affairs Channels determined by Student Affairs, typically by surveying students in the spring

What Are the Main Support Questions? Software Updates May Be Required – Latest Version of: Web browser video card drivers Java Virtual Machine (JVM). Firewall configuration Allow traffic from 129.105.223.0/25 to destination ports 7000& 7070 XP Not Available on VPN/wireless network Bridged or Multiple Internet Connections Spyware on Computer
