Solving Multi-Step Equations

Steps to Solving an Equation Do I have to Distribute? Multiply the number outside by each term inside. Do I have clean up on each side of the equal sign? Combine like terms (variables with variables, constants with constants) Do I have variables on both sides? Pick on the little guy, that’s who moves Is the variable isolated? Add or subtract any constants from the variable side FIRST Does the variable have a coefficient? Multiply or divide to eliminate the coefficient Steps to Solving an Equation

Ex 1: Solve: 5s + 13 = 2s + 22

Ex 2: Solve: 2(3x + 1) = 4(x – 5)

Ex 3: Solve: t + 8 = -t + 6 + 2t

Ex 4: Solve: 3(4b – 2) = -6 + 12b

Ex 5: Lorelle pays someone $35 to clear her driveway when it snows Ex 5: Lorelle pays someone $35 to clear her driveway when it snows. She wants to buy an electric snow blower for $689 so that she can clear her own driveway. If the area Lorelle lives in has an average of 5.2 snowfalls each season, how many seasons will it take for her to break even on what she spent for the snow blower?
