Why do some animals hibernate? Lack of available food in the winter causes some animals to hibernate. Their body’s metabolic rate slows down – using the stored energy at a very slow rate. The animals eat a large amount of food and then sleep through the winter months when food is not available

Where do plants get their energy? From the Sun…they use the energy from the sun to produce their own food.

Why do some animals migrate to warmer climates? Some animals migrate south during the winter due to the lack of food during the frigid cold. Some animals migrate to warmer climates to give birth.

How can plants impact the environment? Plants give off oxygen during photosynthesis. Plants provide shelter for animals. Plants keep soil from blowing away.

What part does a plant play in a food chain? The plant is the producer. It gets its energy from the sun and makes its own food.
