Bell work – 5 minutes Q: What is a producer? A: Announcements: 2 more pages of your book are due this Friday Saturday school this Saturday from 9-12

Title of notes: Food chain and food web Page 18 RS

I can create a food web with the flow of energy demonstrated properly. Learning target I can create a food web with the flow of energy demonstrated properly. Today I am… learning about the how energy is passed through an ecosystem. So that I’ll be able to… understand that some organisms eat other organisms to obtain energy. I’ll know I’ve got it when… I can list differences between food chain, web, and pyramid.

Ecological levels of organization Smallest - Individual Largest - Biosphere

Producers vs. Consumers Primary consumers: Eat the producers. (Herbivores) Producers: Make their own food from sunlight.

Organisms that rely on other organisms for their energy/food supply. Consumers Organisms that rely on other organisms for their energy/food supply.

Different Types of consumers Carnivore=Consumer=eat other animals Herbivore=consumer=eat plants Omnivore=consumer=eat plants and animals The detritivores then scavenge on the remains that the decomposers leave

They break down organic matter. Decomposers They break down organic matter. Decomposers start the decomposition process and detritivores consume later. The detritivores then scavenge on the remains that the decomposers leave

The linear sequence of feeding relationships. Food chain The linear sequence of feeding relationships.

Example of the food chain in the desert… Plant Mouse Snake Hawk

Shows feeding relationships among many paths. Food web Shows feeding relationships among many paths.

Example of the food web in the desert…

Ecological pyramid of energy They show the amount of energy within each trophic level of a food chain/web.

An organisms rank in a feeding hierarchy Trophic level An organisms rank in a feeding hierarchy Trophic level 4 Trophic level 3 Trophic level 2 Trophic level 1

Pg. 145 – 146 Bullet point 2 facts from the reading in your notes

Create a food web Page 18 LS Title of your food web (ex. Marine, desert, etc) You must have a minimum of 12 organisms in your web. You must label each organism (ex. producer, primary consumer etc.) Flow of energy must be shown properly You cannot use any of the food webs shown in this PowerPoint
