History We have 95 years of experience in child support The current name of the association has been in use since 1985 development work has lasted for more than 30 years  education, orientation and projects New service y. 2004: “Family is taken on the custody”(In to the institution, rowhouses)

Arguments more alternatives before taking a child into care work in families home was not sufficient  The whole family had to move to a new environment, where support, assistance and control is 24/7 family reuniting New service started y. 2004

Turning point We were well prepared for the change in the law Finish Child Welfare Act renewed y. 2007 We were well prepared for the change in the law

Evaluation and rehabilitation periods 3 to 18 months + post-rehabilitation family moves to us There are no charge for the family

Why? Finnish law requires, When The child's physical and mental development has been compromised several times Parents' parenting is not sufficient family must reunite (ending child custody) Problems behind new helplessness mental health problems substance abuse problems

Challenges evaluation and rehabilitation is voluntary but forced… to “sell” the idea to the parent vs. you have no choice the customer can not be acute mental health (psychosis) or substance abuse problem (untreated) customers can come to us, if they are in replacement therapy for drug problems or it`s possible to come after detoxification

Why succes? The association's strong support from the beginning sufficient number of staff adequate facilities evaluation and rehab at the same time ”We found solution – We found a good - Empowerment in everything we do”

Learned through the practice that Rehabilitation is slow, usually very slow… adequate parenting is not much! to give the family time to be (1 year or longer) tolerate incompleteness

the region's best employees workers who work hard and works with the right attitude  Playful, Loving, Accepting, Curious, Empathic! massive investment in learning and work-based learning time to develop work
