Let’s review… centimeters When using a ruler, we measure in ____________. When using a graduated cylinder, we measure in ____________. milliliters 43 mL

MASS Triple-Beam Balance Measurements Goals: Use a triple-beam balance to find the mass of an object. Make careful observations using your senses. Make inferences based on prior knowledge and careful observations.

When finding the mass of an object, we use a triple-beam balance and label it grams (g).

Mass—measure of how much matter an object is made of What is mass? Mass—measure of how much matter an object is made of

Let’s practice… What is the mass? 500+40+5.2= 545.2 g

Let’s practice… What is the mass? 20+0+7.7= 27.7 g

Let’s practice… What is the mass? 272.1 g

Let’s practice… What is the mass? 17 g

Does mass affect the height of bounce? Make your prediction! (indoor softball, tennis ball, vs. bouncy ball)

Follow the steps carefully! Find the mass of each ball using the triple-beam balance at your lab station. Record your measurements. Use a meter stick to measure the bounce height of each ball being dropped from the line marked on the wall. (Measure from the bottom of the ball once it bounces one time.)
