What is horizon 2020? The biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020) – in addition to the private investment that this money will attract. It promises more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market.

Activage Age Objectives: Prolong and support the independent living of older adults in their living environments Respond to real needs of caregivers, service providers and public authorities Deployment of innovative and user-led large scale pilots across nine Deployment Sites in seven European countries based on the IoT technologies Create the first European interoperable and open ecosystem, reusing existing IoT platforms, technologies and standards that will enable to develop AHA IoT services and solutions at large scale. Assess the socio-economic impact, the benefits of IoT-based smart living environments in the quality of life and autonomy of older citizens, and in the sustainability of the health and social care systems  new business models

Use cases for Leeds City Council: Daily Activity Monitoring At Home Website for individuals, Doctors , family and care givers to access health records Prescription exercise, calorie/water intake and medication reminders – from Doctors and care givers Exportable data for National Health Service Personal Health Records Emergency Trigger Fall detection system working on Smart watch (Gear S3) Fall Risk alert system – Based on gait analysis over period Identify lack of activity and notify named carer Prevention of Social Isolation Social isolation risk alert system – based on behaviour analysis done using energy data Social games and community engagement using Council’s open data set

Key issues and learning Those least engaged with the Smart City agenda (disabled people, older people, people with learning disabilities) can have the most to gain Get the Basics Right First: Digital Literacy and Access You need to balance work with large Tech companies with Small and Micro Enterprises Local Authorities can assist companies to understand key health and well-being issues and are a helpful route to market Co-Production and Citizen Driven Health solutions lead to better outcomes
