Wood badge ticket John McCulla Course Director Wood Badge S7-602-13 Have you heard about the Ticket in Wood Badge? What have you heard? Who can describe it? I am going to give you an overview of the WB Ticket. We will be talking about your Ticket throughout the course. You will be thinking about the ticket throughout the course, talking about it, and probably dreaming about it! John McCulla Course Director Wood Badge S7-602-13

Wood Badge Ticket Tradition Purpose Components Support This overview will present The Tradition behind the Ticket The purpose of the Ticket What the Ticket is comprised of And, the support you will have to develop your ticket. Components Support

Tradition Tradition: During the time when Lord B-P served in the military, the British Empire was far flung throughout the world in its colonies. Soldiers, when dismissed from the military, had to make their own way home. They often worked assignments and duties at various ports of call, each getting him close to home. This was regarded as “Working one’s ticket” home. So, just as the military worked in significant posts and assignments to achieve their goal to go home, Lord B-P adopted this model for Wood Badge. Each Wood Badge trained participant must work their ticket to achieve their own goal, that is, their vision for themselves in Scouting.

Purpose Commitment Practice and Apply Leadership Skills Strengthen Scouting The Purpose of the Wood Badge Ticket: Is essentially to reflect and capture what WB is all about: - Further build your long-term Commitment to Scouting - To enhance the Leadership skills of each of us in Scouting - Strengthening Scouting - Growing personally is skills and capabilities Ultimately – the Purpose of the Ticket is to Improve Scouting for Youth. Personal Growth

Your Ticket Will Reflect . . . YOU! Values Personal Mission Vision Recall that just a few minutes ago we discuss that Values are those beliefs and commitments that bring us to act or behave in a particular way. Your values are those that give you reason to act to achieve what you see to be your vision and mission in Scouting. Nothing Happens Unless First A Dream. ~Carl Sandburg

Values that Support Your Mission and Vision Questions to Ask Yourself: Why are YOU in Wood Badge? What Motivates YOU to Stay Involved in Scouting? Remember the Twenty Questions you “pondered” about before coming to Wood Badge? You asked yourself these questions. I hope you framed some answers to these. They will be the basis for the development of your Ticket. What are the things that Drive YOUR Priorities in Life?

Your Service to Others It’s not about you How can you best serve your unit, your district, your council? In the end, Scouting is not about you and me, it is about the youth and their families that we serve! “A Good Turn” ~Joseph Csatari, 1991

Primary Scouting Position Your Ticket will be based on what you see as your primary role in Scouting. You may be a Den Leader or Cubmaster You may be a dashing Scoutmaster You may be an Advisor for a Venturing Crew Or, perhaps your primary role is serving other Units as a Commissioner, or serving at the District or Council level The Ticket you develop will be focused on your key role.

Vision: An Image of Future Success Where? What? Remember that your Vision is defined as your mental image of success in Scouting. Where do you want to be? What do you want to be doing? What does your Dream Group in Scouting look like and how does it perform? Dream Group?

Five Significant Goals Fulfill Your Vision Written Your Ticket is comprised of five significant goals. A goal is a meaningful project or task that you undertake to help yourself begin to achieve your vision in Scouting. Think of each goal as an activity that you will take on, by yourself or with others, for the benefit of your Unit, yourself, or for Scouting. Each must relate to the vision you have for yourself in Scouting. Each will be written to ensure it is clear and complete. One of the five goals must promote diversity in some aspect in Scouting. Finally, you will provide leadership to the achievement of the goal. Promote Diversity Include Leadership

Goals Must Be SMART Specific Measurable Attainable Relevant Time-Based Each goal must be defined in a way that it SMART Specific in what will be done Measurable in terms of what is accomplished Attainable – that is, you have the ability to ensure it can be completed Relevant – it is something related to your role and involvement in Scouting Time-based – it can be achieved in the 18 month period following our Course. (done by October 22, 2014) Relevant Time-Based

Details Needed For Each Goal Who? What? Where? When? For each goal, you will describe the 5W’s, the one H, and the L Why? How will you know it’s complete? Leadership!
