Dress Code Facts … Policy approved by Board of Education on June 26, 2007; revised on June 23, 2009 Student dress code takes effect on first day of school - September 7, 2010 Changes made in response to parent requests for stricter dress code enforcement

The Philosophy … Student dress is primarily a parental responsibility Dress should reflect concern for health and safety of the student and others If dress is deemed unsuitable for school wear, principal has the authority to take appropriate action

What is permitted? Collared shirts, polo shirts, T-shirts, turtlenecks, sweaters, sweatshirts, vests, pants, jeans, Capri pants, skirts, skorts, shorts, culottes, jumpers and dresses Hooded sweatshirts, provided the hood is not worn Shoes that do not slip off feet – athletic shoes, oxfords, flats, pumps and sandals with a manufactured back strap Shirts, tops, blouses or dresses that have sleeves or cover the area from neckline to shoulder Tops must be tucked in or overlap bottom garment

Acceptable Male Attire … Shorts of acceptable length Shorts and jeans worn at proper waistline Collared shirts and T-shirts acceptable Appropriate footwear

Acceptable Female Attire … Shorts of acceptable length Tops cover area from neckline to shoulder and overlap bottom garment Collared shirts and T-shirts acceptable

Other Acceptable Attire … Tops overlap bottom garment and cover area from neckline to shoulder Pants and jeans worn at proper waistline Appropriate footwear

What is not permitted? Flip flops, shower shoes, beach shoes, bedroom slippers, unfastened shoes or shoes missing appropriate closures Clothing that is transparent or exposes midriff, navel or cleavage Skirts, shorts, skorts, culottes, jumpers or dresses where hemline is more than two inches above the top of the kneecap while student is standing Clothing with visible holes

What is not permitted? Pants that sag below the waistline Clothing with printing across buttocks area Coats, jackets or other outerwear in classroom Visible clothing that is designed to be worn as an undergarment Headgear Clothing that is obscene, vulgar or ethnically, culturally or sexually offensive

Enforcement … Students in violation of dress code may be subject to suspension under district Student Discipline policy The school and district reserve the right to modify policy as necessary and determine what is disruptive and unsafe Exceptions may be granted upon presentation of approved documentation stating bona fide reason
