Refining Academic Writing with Prof. George E.K. Whitehead

The course This course is designed to: 1. help you develop a richer understanding of various types of academic writing. 2. increase your understanding and ability to write different sections of a thesis or academic journal article. 3. help to increase the quality and clarity of your academic writing through participation in various task- feedback activities. 4. develop your ability to knowledgeably review, and critique different genres of academic writing 5. increase your confidence in your ability to write academically.

Course Evaluation Attendance 20 points Participation, Professionalism, Excellence 20 points Writing portfolio 60 points (10 x 3 & 30 x 1) Total 100 points

Attendance *Attendance includes being here on time prepared for class. LATENESS *5 mins. after the start of class = late *Late = 1 point deduction in attendance Absence *More than 30 mins. = absent * Absence = 2 point deduction in attendance **Absence and tardiness will only be excused if a valid reason and/or a doctors note is provided.

Participation, Professionalism, Excellence *Participation includes all classroom tasks i.e. projects, performances, discussions etc., as well as attention, attitude. Professionalism is the way you conduct yourself in class and with your professor. *5 excellence points are reserved and rewarded for exceptional effort. Some ways to get excellence points: Always here on time for class Outstanding effort during class Helping others in class Outstanding classwork or homework
