Past Perfect - the ‘earlier’ past had + pp Until I came to Korea (in 2015),… I had never seen such a beautiful beach. I had always been very shy. Now though, I am really outgoing. Before I entered Hanyang University (in 2017), I had never…. drunk Soju. had a girfriend. By the time I was a high school student (in 2014), I had (already)… had five girlfriends. been to Jeju Island five times.

Past Perfect - the ‘earlier’ past had + pp We had been married for 4 years before we had children. I had had my car for 5 years before I sold it last year. **We can use the Past Perfect to show that something started in the past and continued up until another action in the past**

Past Continuous – Activity in progress in the past (was/were + ing) Mike said, “Last night at 9 o’clock, Meanwhile, my wife was sending Kakao messages. I was watching TV. T – Which verbs describe an activity in progress in the past? At the same time, my daughter was sleeping.”

Past Simple Mike got married in 2007. i. Completed actions Mike got married in 2007. ii. Long-term situations Mike lived in Thailand for 1 year. iii. A sequence of activities Mike met his wife, got married, and then had a daughter. iv. Repeated actions or events Mike studied hard when he was a student.
