Presentation transcript:

1754 George Washington and the British colonists were trying to push the French and Indians out of Western Pennsylvania near Farmington. He set up a temporary base called Fort Necessity, but was badly defeated and the fort was abandoned. 1755 British general Edward Braddock and his men tried to attack Fort Duquesne. However, they were defeated swiftly by the French and Natives, who killed 2/3 of the British men, including Braddock.

1758 British soldier take Louisbourg, Nova Scotia by siege. They storm the fort and take it from the French. Once in the area, they carry out the Expulsion – over 11,000 Acadians in the area were shipped down the Ohio River to Louisiana, so as not to threaten English control of Louisbourg. 1759 In the summer, the British made another attempt at capturing Fort Duquesne. This time the attack is successful.

1759 In perhaps the most famous moments of the war, the Battle at the Plains of Abraham was a key victory for Britain. General Wolfe and the British defeated the French, highlighted by the death of General Montcalm. 1760 Montreal, the last French stronghold near the St Lawrence River, surrendered to the British. 17,000 men approached the town, and the French had no choice but to abandon their posts.

1763 The Treaty of Paris was signed by officials from Britain and France, with agreements made about how territory would be split and controlled from the end of the war onward.
