My Genius Hour Project: Is there any real Proof Aliens Do Exist? By Sinéad Ó Lonargáin

Introduction Welcome to my genius hour project. The question I decided to base my project on was ‘Is there any real proof that aliens do exist’. As I wanted to find out the different thoughts people had on the topic and the reasons behind their thoughts. While researching my question I found that there was a lot of mixed information and everyone had a different perspective about space and aliens. I was not expecting an answer to the question I chose but I found many interesting stories and information. I also asked some people in the class if they believed that aliens existed and most said that they thought it is very likely as there are so many planets in space that we have not looked at, where aliens might live. I would like to point out that the things that you read in my project are obviously not all fact as we have not found aliens yet but this project is to show what things could be out there. As you read my project I hope you learn lots of interesting information. I also hope that after reading this you will think about all the planets out there and what creature may be on them. But most of all I hope you enjoy this project and learn something interesting that you didn’t know before.

Appearance Nobody knows what aliens look like. Films and TV programmes always show aliens as a green creature with human features, with no hair and big eyes. But why do they show aliens like that? Is there some reason, because if we have never seen an alien, why do all humans have this strange idea of what an alien would look like? A man named Kevin Anderson (a science fiction author) says that aliens would not necessarily have human feature and other people say they would so everyone has their own opinion. Aliens, for intelligence would have something like a brain which would mean they would need a skull or something like a skull to keep it protected. To keep their structure they must have bones or something similar but they could also look completely different and not have bones or a skull or a brain this is just what they may look like. Aliens could look like the creatures we see on the television but could also be formed in a way beyond our wildest dreams. If aliens lived on an Earth like planet it would be very likely that they would have similarities to us such as they may also get a source of energy from a sun. But these are all only predictions that we will hopefully be able to answer sometime in the near future.

If we met While on the topic of aliens you may wonder what might happen if we met an alien. Well I would say it all depends on whether the alien thinks that a human would be a threat to them but if not they would react completely different. It also depends on how the human might react. But humans are known to usually be very protective and may see the alien as a threat. If the meeting went smoothly it would be pretty amazing to find out about a completely different planet, different species and maybe culture. We wouldn’t only meet a new life source but they could also teach us what they knew about space and science which could open a whole new world to us.

If we met But meeting an alien might not have a great impact on our Earth as the aliens may feel threatened and not interact with us. But the astronauts might harm the aliens instead of greeting them as the astronaut may freak out which could really prevent us from learning from the. I hope that if we were to even be so lucky as to meet an alien that we would act the right way and millions of worlds could be opened to us. A not so nice Alien from the film “Alien”.

Theories Many people have claimed to have seen aliens and nobody can say they haven’t but nobody knows if it’s true. There are many different astronauts who have claimed to have seen aliens, here are just a few. Edgar Mitchell in 1971 who claimed aliens had visited Earth on a mission to save humanity from nuclear war. Derek Slayton and Gordon Cooper who were on the same space project called ‘Project Mercury’, which ran from 1958 to 1963. They both claimed to have seen UFOs flying in the sky at the same time in 1951. Not only astronauts have claimed to have seen aliens there are so many people who claim to have seen aliens but many of these stories are fake. Over the years there have been discoveries of life on Mars such as on November 22nd, 2016, Nasa reported finding a large amount of underground ice in the Utopia Planitia which is the northern regions of Mars. Nobody knows for sure if aliens really do exist but if space really is never ending then somewhere out there there must be a different life source other than us. And maybe someday we can invent the technology to help find out. In the next two slides I decided to focus on two discoveries that may have something to do with aliens.

Roswell The Roswell incident happened during the first week of July in 1947 when people said that they saw something streaked out of the sky hitting the ground outside of Roswell, New Mexico. The U.S. military said it was a crashed weather balloon. Then in the 1970s when ufology (people who study science and flying objects) started promoting elaborate conspiracy theories, saying that alien spacecraft had crash landed on Earth. The spacecraft had been recovered by the military, who were trying to cover it up. Then in the 1990s the U.S. military released two reports saying the crashed object was actually a nuclear test surveillance balloon from Project Mogul. Project Mogal was a top secret project by the U.S. army air force involving microphones flown in the air to detect of sound waves. The incident was very suspicious and many people do not believe what the U.S. military said. The Roswell incident is still very popular and there are still many conspiracy theories about the incident. And still to this day this has not been completely solved.

ROSWELL

Saturn’s moon The planet Saturn has over 30 moons unlike our Earth. Scientists found out that alien life forms might be able to survive on Saturn’s moon Enceludas. Even though Enceladus is much small than Earth it has a lot more water on it. Enceladus has risen to the top of the list of potential locations in our solar system that have the right conditions for life sources. Last year NASA announced that they had found out that there was water, ice and most of the chemicals ingredients necessary for habitability. Now scientists are testing whether some of the microorganisms found in the Earth’s oceans vents, known as methanogens, could survive the conditions likely to be on Enceludas. In theory they say it can. Simon Rittman, who is a biologist at the University of Vienna and led the work on Enceladus said ‘We’ve extended the boundaries within which we know methanogens can live.’ The Cassini was the name of the spacecraft which analyzed Saturn’s moon (Enceladus). The spacecraft had been in space for 20 years before plunging into Saturn’s atmosphere. The scientists hope to someday develop a robotic space submarine to Enceladus to identify signs of past or present life there but do not know when this plan will be put into action.

Answering the question The question I asked has not been answered even after all the research I have done. People often swear they have seen aliens and this might be true but most of the time they are fake stories. I have found that many stories are very believable and seem as if they may be true but in the end there is no proof. But after reading this project I hope it gives you an idea of what may or may not be out in space. I hope reading my project will broaden your mind to the idea of some sort of other creatures being on a different planet and that one day we may be able to go out in space and discover different life sources. I hope my project might also inspire others to ask questions that may not have an answers yet but hopefully soon.
