The pH Scale

Set up like this… Add 20ml of acid to small beaker… then using a pipette and referring to the pH scale… get the following colours (pHs) as quickly as you can… be careful.. Stir in each drop before you declare victory

Your challenge will be to make: Number 7,11,4,9,6 from the pH scale Added MGN

H+ OH- H+ + OH-  H2O What is in an Acid? What is in an Alkali? Hydrochloric Acid HCl Sulphuric Acid H2SO4 Nitric Acid HNO3 Ethanoic Acid CH3COOH They all provide Hydrogen ions H+ Sodium Hydroxide NaOH Potassium Hydroxide KOH Magnesium Hydroxide MgOH They all provide Hydroxide ions OH- In equal amount the two can combine to form water – a neutral substance H+ + OH-  H2O

Balancing act… Acid H+ Alkali OH- H+ OH- H+ OH- Neutral

Literacy task: Summarising In 5 sentences summarise as much information as you can about what you have learned from this lesson. H+ OH- Acid Alkali Neutral pH Scale Universal Indicator Extra: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IpIkq_xLFA (MGN)
