Figure 1 Depiction of a closed-loop insulin delivery system. A sensor (black rectangle) identifies and transmits interstitial glucose data to a controller (red box), which runs a control algorithm and interacts with the user. An insulin pump (blue box) subcutaneously delivers a rapid-acting insulin analogue. Insulin delivery is modulated in real-time by the control algorithm. Communication between system components is wireless.
