Check In Homework State the name of the following genotypes: AA Aa aa Distinguish between genotype and phenotype. Homework Finish Spongebob Incomplete Dominance WS

Notes – Beyond Dominance What is the difference?

Incomplete Dominance Heterozygous phenotype is somewhere between the dominant and recessive phenotypes Carnations example: RR = Red RW = Pink WW = White

Codominance More than one allele is dominant over another allele Individuals that have both dominant alleles will express both alleles equally Example: Blood types A B O

Codominance AA or AO BB or BO AB OO

Blood type example #1 A mother with type B blood marries a man with type A blood. What are their genotypes? Mother: BB or BO Father: AA or AO If both parents are heterozygous, make a Punnett square to determine the probabilities of genotypes among their offspring.

Blood type example #2 A mother with type B blood has two children, one with type A blood and one with type O blood. Her husband has type O blood. Could the husband be the father of either child? Which?

Polygenic Traits Traits produced by two or more genes Examples: eye color, skin color This is a simplified model of skin color inheritance, which is also influenced by sun exposure.

Genes and Environment Hydrangea flowers of the same genetic variety range in color from blue-violet to pink, with the shade and intensity of color depending on the acidity and aluminum content of the soil.

Genes and Environment Traits are determined by interactions between genes and environment Example: Skin color, Type 2 Diabetes
