Highlights FY18 funding increased $2.9 mil to ~$38 mil FY19 funding ~$42 mil by House, pending Senate passage 58% of tailings removed Defensive wells still protecting river 4 days x 34 railcars x 4 containers x 38 tons average as of Nov, 2012 Observations provided by Grand County UMTRA Liaison on behalf of the Moab Tailings Project Steering Committee, as established by Grand County Resolution 2970A.

Non-Defense Environmental Small Projects Five other DOE Non-Defense Environmental Small Projects ARRA* ARRA* ARRA* * American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, aka “Stimulus” Tailings shipment and funding information provided by Moab UMTRA. Other observations provided by Grand County UMTRA Liaison on behalf of the Moab Tailings Project Steering Committee, as established by Grand County Resolution 2970A.

201,000 tons per month with ARRA 58% of Tailings Removed Assumed 40,000 tons for July, 2018 Shipments curtailed Dec 2012 – Feb 2013 due to funding cuts 39,400 tons per month since workforce reduced Shipments interrupted by rock slide 201,000 tons per month with ARRA Tailings shipments suspended due to lack of adequate funding. Tailings shipment and funding information provided by Moab UMTRA. Other observations provided by Grand County UMTRA Liaison on behalf of the Moab Tailings Project Steering Committee, as established by Grand County Resolution 2970A.

Main Project Goals Move tailings away from Colorado River Protect river by intercepting ground water contaminants Remediate vicinity properties (VP) Reclaim project sites at Moab and Crescent Junction UNOFFICIAL PROJECTION by Liaison, actual end dates depend on future funding levels ACTIVE REMEDIATION 1 remaining of 15 Total project costs are estimated at about $1 billion At the current rate (rolling six month average) the last of the tailings will be shipped in late-2032. Ground Water Remediation Extraction wells between pile and river intercept contaminated ground water Fresh water “curtain” injected when river is low Side channel habitat protected seasonally with added fresh water Injection wells between side channel and Riverside Trail 908,000 pounds ammonia 4,880 pounds uranium extracted through June, 2018 (kept out of river) Injecting during winter does not protect habitat any better, and tends to clog up wells. ACTIVE ground water remediation could continue 1-2 years after pile removed. Supplemental standards may be applied for PASSIVE remediation. Well field data provided by Moab UMTRA. Other observations provided by Grand County UMTRA Liaison on behalf of the Moab Tailings Project Steering Committee, as established by Grand County Resolution 2970A.
