Government Control Unit “Repent Harlequin,” said the Ticktockman

Agenda Finish Minority Report and theme assignment Style in texts, including film Read “Repent Harlequin, said the Ticktockman” Assignment = Representing the story’s style in a storyboard (visual) format I can use various film techniques (sketch) to represent an author’s written style.

Bellringer Rewatch this scene from Minority Report. When I pause the screen, I want you to draw this shot out. Be very specific with your details! Look to draw the little things. I should not see any blank space! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=901lYbPmqu4 (Stop at 50sec mark)

Style Why do you need these details? What purpose do they serve? Writing style refers to the manner in which an author chooses to write to their readers. Style reveals the author’s personality or voice. In film, style is a recognizable group of conventions used by filmmakers to add visual appeal, meaning, or depth to their work. It can encompass every aspect of film; dialogue, cinematography, attitude (i.e., seriousness or lack thereof). Style is very important creating an effective film. Why do you need these details? What purpose do they serve?

“Wes Anderson's latest movie, The Grand Budapest Hotel, is unmistakably the director's style. New pictures featuring bold color palettes and highly stylized characters have been released, and we're more excited than ever for the murder mystery's release.”

Wes Anderson’s style Anderson has been noted for his extensive use of flat space camera moves, obsessively symmetrical compositions, snap-zooms, slow-motion walking shots, a deliberately limited color palette, and hand-made art direction often utilizing miniatures. These stylistic choices give his movies a highly distinctive quality that has provoked much discussion, critical study, supercuts and mash-ups, and even parody. Frequently uses pop music from the 1960s and '70s on the soundtracks of his films, and one band or musician tends to dominate each soundtrack

Style Continued Style is important to ensure people enjoy a film. Style creates a unique perspective and also can change the tone or mood of a film. Sometimes movies lack style and rely upon cliché images to carry their films forward.

“Repent Harlequin,” Said The Ticktockman Author: Harlan Ellison Published in December 1965 The story set in a future in which everything runs on a specific time. Being late is no longer just rude, but it is a crime. The story opens with a passage from Civil Disobedience by Henry David Thoreau. Consider why might Ellison begin his story this way. What purpose does it serve.

Style in Writing Style in writing is harder to pick up on, but you have to look at the details and analyze what is actually happening in the foreground, but also in the background. You will being turning these words into a full visual storyboard. As we read, star passages you might want to revisit to draw out for your storyboard. You will draw out at least 6 frames!

Storyboards A sequence of drawings representing the shots planned for a film or television production.
