What is PTSD Emotional illness Result of terrifying, life threatening, or highly unsafe experience Sufferers re-experience the event(s) Avoid places, people, and situations Hypersensitive to normal life experiences

Complex-Post Traumatic Stress Disorder C-PTSD Prolonged exposure to traumatic event(s) Long lasting effects Difficulty with emotional and social functioning

Who is Effected by PTSD? Anyone who experiences a traumatic event can develop PTSD Women twice as likely as men Estimated 5 million Americans effected at any given time

7-8% of American citizens expected to face PSTD in lifetime 10-30% of rape victims Up to 30% of combat veterans Over 30% of children/teens involved in community violence

It is not necessary to be present for a traumatic event to develop PTSD
