Russian History - Before Communism 988 Grand Prince Vladimir converts Russia to Christianity Mongol Invasion- Asian invaders from Mongolia led by Genghis Khan - Mongols occupy and rule Russia for more than 200 years. 1240-1480 Fear of attack from Mongols runs deep in Russian mentality. Russia is a vast land, unprotected by natural barriers.

1894 Czar Nicholas II The last of the Czars. His wife (Alexandra) is influenced by an illiterate “holy man” named Rasputin RASPUTIN CONVINCED ALEXANDRA THAT HE WAS ABLE TO CURE HEMOPHELIA (BLOOD DISORDER – LACK OF CLOTTING ) AND STOP HER SON FROM BLEEDING TO DEATH. Nicholas abdicates (gives up power) in March 1917… he is executed, along with his entire family.
