What is Cloning? Lets watch the beginning of a 53-minute lecture of Mike Riddlewatch the beginning of a 53-minute lectureMike Riddle

This is a 4-minute video with an adult stem cells success story.video This 3-minute video explains the embryonic stem cells making, culturing and usage.video Stem cells are biological cells found in all multicellular organisms, that can divide and differentiate into diverse specialized cell types and can self-renew to produce more stem cells. In mammals (humans and animals), there are two types of stem cells: 1.Embryonic stem cells, which are isolated from the inner cell mass of blastocysts. In a developing embryo, stem cells can differentiate into all the specialized cells (these are called pluripotent cells), but also maintain the normal turnover of regenerative organs, such as blood, skin, or intestinal tissues. 2.Adult stem cells, which are found in various tissues. In adult organisms, stem cells and progenitor cells act as a repair system for the body, replenishing adult tissues.

1. How are stem cells and cloning typically presented by the media? 2. Can you explain the differences between types of stem cells and their successes in treating diseases? Watch the 3-minute DVD clip by Dr. Tommy MitchellDr. Tommy Mitchell (The New Answer DVD 3: What about cloning and stem cells?) 3. What promises do stem cell treatments hold? 4. Why is understanding the difference in using embryonic and adult stem cells important? 5. What ethical dilemma comes with the use of embryonic stem cells? 6. Which type of stem cell has been most successful in treatments to date?
