The Christian Toolbox Knowledge And Self-Control

Congo River

Church in Kinshasa

2 Peter 1:5-8 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Knowledge Proverbs 10:4 Wise men store up knowledge. Knowledge of God. 2. Knowledge of God’s word. 3. Knowledge generally.

Knowledge 1. Love God with all your mind. 2. Develop David’s Psalm 119 attitude. 3. Have a sense of adventure. 4. Have a plan. -short term -medium term -long term

Self-Control 2 Tim 1:7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

Self-Control Proverbs 16:32 Better is a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city. Proverbs 25:28 Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.

Knowledge and Self-Control In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

Discussion Questions: What do you propose to do to increase you Christian knowledge? What aspect of self-control do you want to work on? Are you willing to seek accountability for these things?
