Central Tendency Mean – the average value of a data set. Add all the items in a data set then divide by the number of items in the data set.
Example: Correlation Part 1: Use Tools > Data Analysis Part 2: Use Insert Function f x Issue: The company wants to analyze the relationship between salary.

8-2 Measures of Central Tendency and Range. Measure of Central Tendency  A number used to describe the center of a set of data  Mean, Median, Mode.
The number which appears most often in a set of numbers. Example: in {6, 3, 9, 6, 6, 5, 9, 3} the Mode is 6 (it occurs most often). Mode : The middle number.

Descriptive Statistics Overview

Mean

Median

Things to know …. Means are sensitive to outliers—use the median (outliers are extreme values) If the number of data points is odd, the median is the number in the middle. If the number of data points is even, the median is the average of the numbers nearest the middle When your data set is all categories, use the mode (mode is value occurring most often)
