3rd Trimester Fetal Development
Seven Months -At the beginning of the seventh month, the baby weighs about 1 ½ pounds and is about 10-12 inches long. His body is well-formed. -Fingernails cover his fingertips
Mom -Mom is starting to really feel the pressure of the baby -Difficulty breathing, back pain, and heartburn are common -Final preparations for the baby should have begun at this point
Eight Months -Baby is gaining about half a pound per week, and layers of fat are piling on. -He/she has probably turned head-down in preparation for birth. -He weighs between 2 1/2 and 3 pounds.
Mom -Increased pressure from the head of the baby in mom’s pelvis -Increased weight gain and associated symptoms -May need bed rest if high risk pregnancy or multiple babies
8 months
Nine Months -Baby is a hefty 5 to 6 pounds and measures between 17 and 18 inches. -As he becomes more crowded, the mother may feel him move around less.
Mom -Increased weight gain -sleepless nights -fatigue -Must be completely prepared for birth and newborn
