Relaxed Story Telling: “I need to check something on the computer.” 2-3 minutes were given to “talk amongst yourselves,” unstructured. When you are talking in class with friends, you are more animated. Approach this story telling presentation in a more relaxed and excited fashion.

Handshaking: I shook over 200 hands in the last week. Turn to your neighbor. Shake their hand. Evaluate your neighbor’s handshake. Was it: weak, limp, firm, painful, sweaty? Quick tips to a good handshake: Be firm, or match the grip of their hand. “Shake” 2-3 times. Hold about 2-5 seconds. Keep palms perpendicular to the floor. Eye Contact is a must. Be sure you are standing.

You MUST: Start your story with: Focus on a specific single moment. A preview of your topic & “So there I was…” This gets us immediately into the action. Focus on a specific single moment. Don’t tell about an entire weekend or day, use detail to bring the audience in. Use dialogue & characters. Take someone’s words & voice. Gesticulate. Make your presentation visually appealing. Make notes of where you’ll do this.

Rubric:

You MUST: Give a topic preview with a story title. Start your story with “So there I was…” Focus on a specific single moment in your story. Use dialogue and voices. Gesticulate as you present.

Rehearsing w/ an Audience: Intro Handout. Grouping Get in a group of 3. Presentation Rehearsal You will have 5 minutes per person to: Tell a story. Record notes. Focus on where to add details and gesticulation. Review verbally.

Rehearsing w/ an Audience: Reflect on the feedback from your partners and improve your story for next class.

Calendar / Schedule: April 2&3: Presentations Everyone should be prepared. April 4&5: Presentation Wrap-Up Discussion of ST2. Homework: Prepare your second story. April 6&9: Tips for Second Story A video and rehearsal. Homework: Rehearse! April 10,11,12&13: Story Telling Two. Presentation order is unknown. Be prepared.
