Intro to Ch. 34: Existing Building Code Code Review: Existing Building Code Intro to Ch. 34: Existing Building Code Intro to Ch. 34: Existing Building Code Prescriptive Method Forms of Alterations- Level 1 Forms of Alterations- Level 2 What is an existing building? IEBC Existing Building: A building erected prior to the date of adoption of the appropriate code, or one for which a legal building permit has been issued.

Intro to Ch. 34: Existing Building Code Code Review: Existing Building Code Intro to Ch. 34: Existing Building Code Intro to Ch. 34: Existing Building Code Prescriptive Method Forms of Alterations- Level 1 Forms of Alterations- Level 2 How is ‘existing structure’ defined? 780 CMR Section102.6 Existing Structures. Prescriptive Method

Is prescriptive method a method of compliance? Code Review: Existing Building Code Prescriptive Method Intro to Ch. 34: Existing Building Code Prescriptive Method Forms of Alterations- Level 1 Forms of Alterations- Level 2 Is prescriptive method a method of compliance? There are three compliance methods: Prescriptive Work Area Performance Only one method of compliance may be chosen and applied throughout the project.

How have compliance methods been added to the code? Code Review: Existing Building Code Prescriptive Method Intro to Ch. 34: Existing Building Code Prescriptive Method Forms of Alterations- Level 1 Forms of Alterations- Level 2 How have compliance methods been added to the code? The 2015 IEBC added Chapter 3 titled “Provisions for All Compliance Methods” which is intended to explain how the code is to applied. Other chapters are renumbered accordingly.

Why choose the prescriptive method? Code Review: Existing Building Code Prescriptive Method Intro to Ch. 34: Existing Building Code Prescriptive Method Forms of Alterations- Level 1 Forms of Alterations- Level 2 Why choose the prescriptive method? The prescriptive method is: Reflected in Chapter 4 of the IEBC is more simplistic than the Work Area Method More administrative in nature Derived from Chapter 34 of earlier versions of the IBC Is prescriptive in nature

Where can I find the prescriptive method? Code Review: Existing Building Code Prescriptive Method Intro to Ch. 34: Existing Building Code Prescriptive Method Forms of Alterations- Level 1 Forms of Alterations- Level 2 Where can I find the prescriptive method? The prescriptive method is located in Chapter 4 and provides basic information for: Additions: Section 402 Alterations: Section 403 Repairs: Section 404 Change of Use: Section 407 Historic Buildings: Section 408 Also Provides Guidance for: Fire Escapes: Section 405 Glass and Window Replacement: Section 406 Accessibility: Section 410

What does the prescriptive method do? Code Review: Existing Building Code Prescriptive Method Intro to Ch. 34: Existing Building Code Prescriptive Method Forms of Alterations- Level 1 Forms of Alterations- Level 2 What does the prescriptive method do?
