Cambodia National REDD+ Strategy Development: Progress and Challenges Chhun Delux Deputy Chief Forest Carbon Credits and Climate Change, Forestry Administration, Cambodia E-mail: chhundelux83@gmail.com

Why National REDD+ Strategy? One of the four required elements under the WFR, and Cambodia has ambitions to move rapidly to RBPs under the WFF. Key policy documents and presenting the strong commitment of the country government to address D&D Provide clear direction to the government and stakeholders to achieve goal in reducing/eliminating D&D Potential for seeking more funding support from different donor requirements

How it is developed? Inputs from different stakeholders ( 4 Technical Teams, Consultation Group, Cambodia REDD+ Taskforce) Build on the outputs from readiness phase Following the  step: (1) plan (2) skeleton (3) draft strategy (4) public consultation (4) finalize and present at COP

What are the key challenges in developing NRS? Difficult to align with existing government policies that aim to address D&D in different line ministries No-clear framework from UNFCCC on NRS ( especial all elements in the strategy i.e fund mechanism, benefit sharing..) Lack of clear “best practices” – examples of existing NRS in A/P (e.g., Indonesia, VN, Philippines) are very different, and so there is no clear guidance from past experiences- especially address D&D in regional level..
