Overview Project Background Project Schedule Construction Progress Airframe Catapult Flight Management Fuel Cell Future Work

Background Limited Life Expectancy of Battery during flight Fuel cells provide the potential for long range flight performance Proof of Concept Mission

Gantt Chart

Construction Progress – Airframe Skywalker X8 Flying Wing delivered Assembly of two airframes at any given time Aerodynamics-modeled in XLFR5 and Solidworks Optimized component layout

Construction Progress – Catapult Initial planning Several versions Final product Extensive testing Testing after each version Improvements made Final product tested with and without realistic weight Would like to increase power Consistent and controlled launch Want to make it go further New elastic Cranking system

Flight Management - Training Parrot AR Drone Quadricopter 2.0 ParkZone Ember 2 RTF Aircraft Phoenix RC Pro Simulator - Delta Wing

Construction Progress – Fuel Cell Testing performance of Hydrostiks and flow rate through fuel cell Looking into different wiring options for the fuel cell (series/parallel) First learned how to refuel hydrostiks Then had to work basic fuel cell theory in order to determine proper amount of flow rate from Hydrostiks Hydrostik Pros: Instead of storing hydrogen in a compressed bottle form, the hydrostik pro binds the hydrogen with a metal alloy along the wall to form a solid metal hydride. However we’ve been testing the performance of the hydrostiks to determine the proper flow rate for the fuel cell. One hydrostik just isn’t quite enough to power the fuel cell. Theoretically the more hydrogen we have the closer we will be to the power demand of 100 watts

Future Work Ground Testing Minor Redesigns Flight Demonstrations Starting Friday 02/12/2016 Minor Redesigns Flight Demonstrations Starting: 03/1/2016
