Background Scorecard: Accountability Framework AB1417 in 2004 Accountability Reporting for Community Colleges (ARCC) was the basis from which the Scorecard was built. 4 Tiers of the Accountability Framework State of the System Access and completion across entire CCC system Scorecard – core of the framework & focus of today’s presentation Measures students’ progress and completion Disaggregated by several student demographic categories Data Mart 2.0 – online at the State Chancellor’s Website Allows individuals to drill down further into the scorecard metrics Data-on-Demand Most detailed level for college researchers to download datasets pertaining to each scorecard metric. Overview of Scorecard Online Scorecard is easy to find and navigate -http://scorecard.cccco.edu/scorecard.aspx College Profile – population in 2013-2014 Five Main Scorecard Metrics - grouped into 2 categories Momentum Points Remedial Progress Rate for Math, English and ESL Persistence* 30 Units* Completion Outcomes* Degree, certificate, transfer, & transfer-prepared Completion among Career Technical Education students *Persistence, 30 Units, and Completion Outcomes have 2 sub-categories: College Prepared: The student’s lowest course attempted in Math and/or English was college level Unprepared for College: The student’s lowest course attempted in Math and/or English was remedial level Denice Remedial: Percentage of credit students tracked for six years through 2013-14 who first enrolled in a course below transfer level in English, mathematics, and/or ESL during 2008-09 and completed a college-level course in the same discipline. Persistence: Percentage of degree, certificate and/or transfer-seeking students starting first time in 2008-09 tracked for six years through 2013-14 who enrolled in the first three consecutive terms. 30 Units: Percentage of degree, certificate and/or transfer-seeking students starting first time in 2008-09 tracked for six years through 2013-14 who achieved at least 30 units. Degree/Transfer: Percentage of degree, certificate and/or transfer-seeking students starting first time in 2008-09 tracked for six years through 2013-14 who completed a degree, certificate or transfer-related outcomes. CTE: Percentage of students completing more than eight units in courses classified as career technical education (or apprenticeship ) in a single discipline for the first time in 2008-09 tracked for six years through 2013-14 who completed a degree, certificate, apprenticeship or transfer-related outcomes.
Changes in the Scorecard since last year Major Changes Percent of First-Generation Student to College Profile Based on the highest level of education of a student’s parent/guardian (at least one) Denice First Generation: First-Generation status is defined as a student for whom no parent or guardian has earned more than a high school diploma nor has any college experience. *Data reported varies widely on the - statewide rate is 28.1% & 35 colleges did not report data CTE Metric – both colleges don’t have any apprenticeship courses Scorecard Major Changes Revision to the CTE Metric Apprenticeship students (SAM=A) now included in cohort Completing an Apprenticeship (based on data matching) included in the outcome Also took out students who were “transferred prepared” in the outcome metric (incorrectly included in past cohorts)
Changes in the Scorecard since last year Display of Cohorts Sizes (Ns) Major Changes Display of Cohorts Sizes (Ns) Feedback was to more visibly include the size of the cohorts Why are the Ns (cohort size) so small? First-time students are about 32% of all enrollments Student with SSNs – about 10% are missing valid SSNs Course Taking Patterns looking at the first 3 years Metric Profile There is an additional tab on the online scorecard to show you the demographics of the cohort for each metric. It is in the same categories – college prepared, unprepared for college and overall. Denice CTE Metric – both colleges don’t have any apprenticeship courses First Generation: data reported varies widely on the - statewide rate is 28.1% & 35 colleges did not report data
