Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA) A Soldiers Resource For Paying For School

Qualifications Active duty, active drill status in guard or reserve (no ING or IRR) High School diploma or GED Cannot be on any ROTC scholarship (tuition or housing) Cannot have any active FLAGS 1 Year TIS: Completion of SSD-1 (Undergraduate) 10 Years TIS: Completion SSD-3/ALC/CCC (Graduate)

What Does TA Pay For? $250 per credit hour, 16 per year cap 130 undergraduate semester hours 39 graduate/certificate hours First Associates, Bachelors, Masters, Certificate. One degree at a time

FTA Cap Exemptions INITIAL teaching certification (18 SH) Approved foreign language courses Specialized Chaplain Certification Prerequisites for IPAP, AMECP , DPT and USMA Contact EO for more information

FTA Cap Exemptions Transitioning Soldier 21 SH towards academic cert for soldiers Who possess a degree Enlisted Soldiers must be within 3 years of ETS Officers still have service obligation

Required Documents Degree Plan After 6 SH, Soldiers need to complete course planner and upload degree plan Online degree audits from student account preferred

Soldier Responsibility Time Restrictions FTA requests can be submitted up to 60 days prior to course start date Course requests MUST be APPROVED before course start date Requests must be submitted 5 business days prior to course start date If a course is requested even one day late, FTA cannot be approved

Transcripts Submit official transcripts from any college previously attended Can be obtained by previous colleges registrar Submit Army Transcript JST

Joint Services Transcript Ensure to submit your military transcript to your home college by going to https://jst.doded.mil

Recoupment D> = Recoupment Bachelors C> = Recoupment Masters I after 120 days = Recoupment W for Personal reasons Schools have 45 days at end of course to enter grade

Withdraw for Military Reasons 1. Unanticipated military mission, to include unanticipated Federal or State missions for National Guard Soldiers who are involuntarily mobilized 2. Emergency leave Death of a family member Illness/hospitalization as endorsed by my Battalion Commander or first LTC in the chain of command; or by my Unit Commander if in the Reserve Component for each class. **3 years from course end date to request WM** IMPORTANT! You are required to initiate all drops and withdrawals from classes through GoArmyEd PRIOR to the class end date. 16

Michigan National Guard State Tuition Assistance Program (MING STAP) WHAT DOES IT PAY? -UP TO $600 PER SEMESTER HOUR -UP TO $6000 PER YEAR! -COVERS TUITION AND MOST FEES -144 SEMESTER HOURS UNDERGRADUATE, 42 SEMESTER HOURS GRADUATE WHAT SCHOOLS QUALIFY? -ASSCIATES, BACHELORS, MASTERS DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, VOCATIONAL TRAINING -MICHIGAN BASED SCHOOL AM I ELIGIBLE? -ACTIVE MEMBER OF ARNG, ACIVE DUTY OR RESERVES (NO ING OR IRR) -NO FLAGS -MAINTAIN 2.0 GPA -APPLY FOR FTA FIRST * APPLY AT: http://www.michigan.gov/dmva/0,4569,7-126-2360_68898---,00.html *

FTA + MING STAP $4,000-TUITION + $6,000-TUITION AND FEES = $10,000 ANNUALLY NOT TO EXCEED 100% COST OF TUITION AND FEES BOOK AND TESTING ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR REIMBURSEMENT

GI Bill CH 1606 CANNOT be used concurrently with FTA CH 1607 has sunset as of NOV 2015 CH 30/33 CAN be used concurrently with FTA (Traditional Soldiers)
