Today we are learning to interpret Michelangelo's creation of Adam Today we are learning to interpret Michelangelo's creation of Adam. We are learning this so that we can identify key features of the painting and explain how closely this painting depicts the genesis account of the creation of man. I can define identify the main themes in Michelangelo's Creation of Adam I can explain some key ideas about the themes represented in Michelangelo's creation of Adam I can explain how Michelangelo’s painting represent ideas presented in the Genesis creation account. I can evaluate the ideas portrayed in the Creation of Adam in contrast to those in Genesis.

What day did God create sun, moon and stars? What did pope benedict say about the compatibility of science and religion? What was the first living creature according to the big bang? When does the big bang suggest the universe came into existence? Define agnosticism.

Mark your work out of 5. set a target relating to last lessons work. Day 4 “When God is subtracted, something does not add up for man, the world, the whole vast universe.” Cells/fish 14 billion years ago an agnostic is someone who Is not sure about the existence of god.

Michelangelo was commissioned in 1499 to paint the ceiling of the Sistine chapel in Rome. His paintings, here, depict various biblical stories. We will be considering how closely his painting of the creation of Adam fits the Biblical account of the creation of humanity.

Each group has a section of Michelangelo’s creation of Adam painting. Using the view finders to help focus your thoughts, look carefully at your section and annotate the image. Use your thinking hats to help guide your thinking. You will present your ideas to the rest of the class. Allow time for each pair to share what they saw in their section of the image. This can be done as a whole class or in tables depending of the size of the class. Can you identify any Christian ideas about God and man in your section of the painting?

Lay your tracing paper over the full image of the creation of Adam. Add annotations as each group talks through their findings. Use pages 10-11 to add further annotations Pages 10-11 in AQA textbook as we don’t yet have the Educas one. Alternatively, you could watch the analysis video http://study.com/academy/lesson/the-creation-of-adam-by-michelangelo-analysis-lesson-quiz.html
