GHG OZONE Pollution CO2, CH4, H2 O3 NO, C20H12, CH2O Voeikov Main Geophysical Observatory (MGO) founded in 1849 is the Russian oldest meteorological research institution. Currently MGO belongs to the Russian Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environment Monitoring. The scope of research conducted by MGO includes global and regional climate modelling, extended numerical weather prediction, air pollution, applied climatology, etc. GHG OZONE Pollution CO2, CH4, H2 O3 NO, C20H12, CH2O

The Roshidromet ozone network Network consists by 28 ozone stations equipped with Filter Ozonometers M-124 (red squares) and new instruments Ultraviolet Ozone Spectrometers UVOS (yellow squares). Long-term time series of Total Ozone measured for the period 1973-2016.

UVOS – Ultraviolet Ozone Spectrometer

M-124 ozonometers have been exploited for measurements more than 30 years. Observations are carried out manually, also it is difficult to maintain the technical support of these devices. It is important to replace M-124 ozonometers with the modern automatic equipment. The new equipment should operate under all weather conditions over the vast Russian territory. Moreover, in accordance with modern WMO requirements, ozone network should measure also incoming UV radiation. The new automatic spectral instrument was developed in Voeikov MGO in cooperation with firm “Laser Center of ITMO”. Now more than 10 stations of Roshidromet ozone network has equipped with new instrument: Ultraviolet Ozone Spectrometer UVOS.

UVOS specification Parameter Value Units Spectral range 290÷400 nm Spectral resolution < 1 Minimum spectrum recording time 2 msec UVR spectral density range 0.5÷1.5х103 mWt/m2nm UVR measurements error < 10 % Total ozone measurements range 0,1 ÷ 0,6 atm-cm Sun heights range for total ozone measurements 5÷70 degrees Total ozone measurements error ≤ 5 Optical block weight ≤ 9 kg Dimensions 400х140х380 mm Power supply 220 (50) V, (Hz)
