T&CM IN MALAYSIA Definition Traditional Malay Medicine “practice of traditional and complementary medicine” means a form of health-related practice designed to prevent, treat or manage ailment or illness or preserve the mental and physical well-being of an individual and includes such practices as traditional Malay medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, traditional Indian medicine, homeopathy, Islamic medical practice and complementary therapies, but excludes medical and dental practices used by a medical and dental practitioner respectively; Traditional Chinese Medicine Traditional Indian Medicine Islamic Medical Practice Complementary Therapies Homeopathy T&CM ACT 2013 (ACT 756), SECTION 3

NATIONAL T&CM POLICY Integration of Traditional and Complementary Medicine (T&CM) into the Malaysian Healthcare System Ensure quality and safe use of T&CM practices and products to attain optimal potential in healthcare delivery VISION MISSION Traditional/ complementary system (T/CM) shall be an important component of healthcare system. It will co-exist with modern medicine and contribute towards enhancing the health and quality of life of all Malaysians. National Policy of Traditional and Complementary Medicine, Ministry of Health Malaysia (Revised 2007)

TRADITIONAL & COMPLEMENTARY MEDICINE ACT 2016 (ACT 775) The T&CM Act 2016 has been gazette on 10 March 2016. Main objectives of the Act 775 are: Ensure the high quality, effectiveness and safety of the T&CM practices. Determine eligibility requirements for each type of T&CM practices. Render compulsory registration of T&CM practitioners. Enforce the legislation.
