Relationships & Connections Ccsd talent development 1st Grade What Doesn’t Belong? 

One of these things... Shoes Balloons Teachers will show the video “One of these things.” originally played on Sesame Street back in the 70s. Students will watch the analogy picture video. Before the answers are revealed the teacher will pause the video to stimulate conversation among the students in order for them to identify the correct answer. Play at least three of the videos so that the students are able to get a “feel” of how to identify relationships among different things or objects.

L1: What is an analogy? An analogy draws parallels between objects or ideas. Analogies can be about simple or complex concepts. In this exercise, students will use critical thinking skills and evaluate the relationships between four objects by using reasoning. How are these objects similar? Let's use these similarities to identify the object that does not belong. .
