Update of breast cancer KCH Cancer Registry

Key issues The number of breast cancer cases have been on the rise yearly. Increasing number of cases with unknown HIV status. This is an area for research i.e. one would want to compare treatment outcomes in HIV positive patients and HIV negative patients diagnosed with breast cancer. And treatment tolerance would it be the same ?

Key issues At KCH the majority of breast cancer cases are locally advanced disease/or inflammatory breast cancer. Multimodal therapy is the only way of improving treatment outcomes for these patients (Chemotherapy, Surgery and Radiotherapy).

Key issues The therapeutic challenges of inflammatory breast cancer means that key players, MoH and development partners should put more emphasis , 1. Prevention 2.Early detection (awareness and screening) 3.Diagnosis and treatment(inadquate diagnostic and treatment facility in our country) only Blantyre and Lilongwe.

Key issues 4 . Research, (areas of interest and goals) improving care for patients living with HIV and Cancer. Local experts should play key role for the continuation of the research projects. Of course with understanding that this is a process. 5. Capacity building(institutional/or societal), very essential component of successful cancer control program
